Three months after being elected as president of the FIA, former Ferrari man Jean Todt has started to replace key personal within the Formula 1 governing body by firing former convener of the stewards and FIA liaison Alan Donnelly as well as former technical consultant Tony Purnell from their roles in F1. According to prominent F1 journalist Jame Allen, Todt will further reshuffle the FIA structure by introducing a new position. This new appointment will be called ‘F1 commissioner’, a new and powerful position set to be the face and point of contact between the teams and the governing body at and during F1 events as well as an important touch point between the teams and FOM.

The verdict saw the Courts overturning the previous decision that was handed down to the colorful Italian billionaire originally. This action against the FIA was brought forward after he was banned from actively continuing his career and involvement in Formula One after being found guilty of race-fixing.

Using Ferrari F1 engines to power their car in 2010, Swiss based Sauber were informed via an official letter from the FIA, that “their application for an entry in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championshiop has been successful” The vacancy became available after the Toyota team departed from F1 after having signed the concorde agreement binding them to compete in F1 until 2012. Effectively breaching this agreement left legal uncertainty and formalities that needed to be cleared before Sauber could have a full confirmation on their place.

Formula 1 governing body on Monday, published their usual end of the year, official grid for the following year listing GP entrants. Reading it however, leaves no fewer questions than were present before it was published. One might wonder, WHY was it published? Perhaps there’s pressure on the FIA to show just where and how, the financial chits that keep the F1 world turning are going to be generated. As if admitting defeat or accepting the direction of their new boss, the FIA attended an international seminar that revisited the issue of overtaking in motor sport. Several FIA members including technical experts and directors, circuit designers, senior engineers and drivers from different racing disciplines/leagues including Formula One and other championship series. The seminar’s purpose was to review and examine recommendations made that might improve overtaking, an issue that many have raised as a major concern. Among discussed topics were potential new sporting regulations, aerodynamics and circuit design in an effort to increase overtaking and thus the spectacle of modern racing.

Newly-elected FIA president Jean Todt says that he intends to work towards a harmonious relationship between the governing body and Formula 1’s teams, but warned that they must drive down the cost of competing in the sport.
Todt, who replaces Max Mosley after his 16 years in power, landed an overwhelming victory over Ari Vatanen in Friday’s FIA presidential election.
