Seems things are finally getting going over in Malaysia for Lotus.
Glad to hear another of the new teams is a step closer to making the grid.

I'm happy to see the new teams making progress.
I wonder how this works, cosworth is not really subject to the engine modification ban is it?  I mean from here on in, does it mean they can no longer make changes or is it open still for change?

I would imagine they would have had to submit final plans before the new year. Now that an engine has been built and started I can't imagine them being allowed to change it so close a season. Although funnier things have happened.

Its still the same old geezers in Norwich pulling the strings. I have done a few lotus jobs the last couple of months and its still the old school.

It is good news you are right mate. Lotus had to branch out to survive (unfortunatley) but their roots remain intact.

Industry is a funny world. It was cheaper for lotus to do away with amazing skilled prototype centres like the one they had in coventry and send the work outside at a more expensive rate, its all wooden money in house you see. But its still the same guys calling the shots at least.

They would be pretty screwed if their season finishes after the Aus GP, considering the weekend after is the Malaysian GP.

I recall Robert saying that BMW had next to no ambitious about trying to win in 2008 and improving the car in 2009. He thought 2008 was their best chance, but instead, they stopped development and went on to try their hand in 2009, where again they failed.

BMW had some kind of target to win races after a certain number of seasons then challenge for the title, too? Didn't they?

Sorta and CF was sort of right as well.

Quote
"In 2006 we exceeded our own targets," said BMW's Dr Mario Thiessen. "Now expectations are rising faster than the team can develop. Thats the punishment for excelling yourself. Two thousand and seven marks the second and final year of our development phase. Our aim is to make it onto the podium on our own merit. If the leading teams show any sign of weakness, we want to be ready to breach the gap. Victories on our own merit are not yet a realistic prospect for 2007. We are aiming for that in 2008. In 2009 we want to be in contention for the World Championship title.

I can't believe I spent 10 minutes googling that  :o I need some sleep  >:(

It just seems weird to me, that they did better than they expected in 2006 and it showed towards the end of the season. Then in 2007, they were the 3rd force in F1 and after they were happy with what they achieved, they stopped development of the F1.07 and concentrated for 2008. Fair enough. But, after Kubica managed a race win, they stopped a lot of the development of their car and then turned to help Nick Heidfeld with his Qualifying dramas and to focus on 2009.

What I am saying is, and Kubica is most likely asking himself the same thing, Why didn't BMW Sauber go the the titles in 2008, in a car they knew was capable of winning it? ???
