Ferrari’s Luca di Montezemolo is still perusing steps with the FIA needed to arrange a third Formula One car for Michael Schumacher to race in 2010.
“This is perhaps an opportunity to have a third car for each team,” the Ferrari president told Bild newspaper. “I will do everything I can. And naturally we are thinking of Michael Schumacher for our third car.”
Recent F1 dramas, rule changes, economy and politics have driven the likes of Bridgestone, Toyota & BMW out of Formula 1. The Ferrari head, will likely not have a better opportunity to make the idea work.
The resent exodus along with long time former Ferrari executive Jean Todt now serving as the president of the FIA and an ever greater need for F1 revival may just prove to be enough.
Schumacher – despite calling off his return in Felipe Massa’s car in August due to an unhealed neck injury has not ruled out making another bid to come back to the F1 grid.
“Let’s put it like this, I do not see a reason why I should confirm or rule out anything,” Schumacher told told Gulf News.
However, Sir Frank Williams doubts that Michael is serious.
“Not a chance. No,” said the Briton.
